Strong Performances Highlight Trojan Effort at IC

RESULTS

The HLG Track & Field squad made the short trip to Jacksonville IL this past Saturday to take part in the Illinois College Snow Bird Invite. The Trojans had a strong showing, highlighted by 15 top-10 finishes.

On the women's side, junior Cara Grinde continued her strong indoor season by winning the pole vault with a mark of 3.43m (11'3"). That mark gives Cara an automatic qualifying mark for the NAIA Indoor National Championships in March. Sophomore Jasman Edmond had a great day taking second in the 200m dash (27.47) and fourth in the 55m dash (7.68). Senior heather Dixon added a pair of top-10 finishes taking 6th in the 3000m run and 7th in the mile race. Freshman Brittni Bastean improved her top effort in the high jump and took 3rd place in that event with a leap of 1.55m (5'1"). Freshman Jocelyn Bright added a pair of 8th place finishes in the long jump (4.49m) and triple jump (9.06m). Junior Carissa Eichmeyer finished fifth in the 3000m race walk and her time of 19:01.17 is just 11 seconds off the NAIA qualifying mark for that event.

On the men's side, a shorthanded squad was led by sophomore Philiph Tonui who won the men's mile with a time of 4:35.36. Philiph later added a 5th place finish in the 3000m run, finishing with a time of 9:11.26. Sophomores Mike Clemons (5.83m) and Scott Siemsen (5.79m) took 11th and 12th in the long jump respectively, and freshman Ben Griffin managed a 19th place showing in the 800m race.
