Junior Philiph Tonui repeated his runner-up performance from a year ago, with a blistering time of 1:09:51. This effort cut 1:36 off of Philiph’s own school record for the distance and set an automatic qualifying time for the 2011 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in May. Freshman Tyler Malone had a strong half marathon debut, placing 35th in the talented-stocked men’s race in a time of 1:19:26. Sophomore Nathan Uding rounded out the effort for the men with a time of 1:26:38, which was good for 47th place.
On the women’s side, sophomore Sarah Erickson made her debut at the 13.1 mile distance and performed well, placing 24rd overall with a time of 1:40:12. Sarah’s effort places her 2nd on the HLG record list for the distance. Fellow sophomore Liz Wilder ran a gutsy race and finished with a time of 1:47:27, which was good for 27th place.
The Trojans will kick off the indoor track & field season on Friday, when the team travels to Ames, Iowa to compete in the Holiday Classic, hosted by Iowa State University.
